Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is with great honour that we invite you to our 3rd Southern ENT update, proudly organised by the Department of Otorhinolaryngology of Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor with the support from the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA). The 2nd ENT update, launched last year in 2019 was nothing short of a success as it was attended by almost 100 participants with generally good feedback from most of the participants. For the year 2020, we intend to push the boundaries of this event to cover more targeted and important topics in ENT for the primary physician and also to introduce our participants to the latest tech on ENT management
Ear, Nose and Throat surgery (ENT) (also known as Otorhinolaryngology (ORL)) is a clinical subject of importance to our daily lives, especially to the primary health physician. Diseases of the ENT region can range from mild throat infections to severe airway compromise and every medical practitioner needs to be equipped with adequate knowledge of ENT practice as it is often lacking during our undergraduate years. We would also like to move a step ahead by introducing certain seemingly simple clinical conditions which may require extensive management options especially in sleep and paediatric surgery.
The theme for the 3rd southern ENT updates is “RhinoZone 2020” as we will be focusing at the first gateway of the airway, the nose. The nose is the organ of smell and serves as an airway passage from birth. It is also a gateway to many health issues like sinusitis and nasopharyngeal cancer. In this course, we will share our experience, clinical pearls and technology in managing such cases as we believe that the nasal cavity is often overlooked by both doctors and patients due to its occult placement.
